A crackling of the air and a rumbling thunder is all that greeted Balthazar as he leaped through the portal he had created. He fell for a short while landing heavily on a paved road. His surrounding seemed barren yet beautiful, a Gothic landscape of black metal and stone seeming to have been thrown forth from the land itself. Above him, in the air there was a crackling black portal, seeming to almost fade with the sky of this land. With a thunderous retort the portal closed, leaving no trace it even existed. Balthazar stood up, his eyes gazing about this barren landscape, a smirk on his face. He reached out and tried to command into existence his mount, a lizard which was the size of a shire horse and could walk on walls and even upside down in caves. A black energy crackled in his hand but nothing came to pass, "This is new......" After another try he sigh'd, "Not the first time my magic has been useless, and its not gonna be the last either." After a few unsteady steps he walked towards the south, he theory was that its always warmer to the south. Not much of a theory but its not like he was worried about anything he encountered.
Black eyes gazed out of the darkness, looking intently at this intruder. It had wandered into its home. Prey was getting scarce and this beast wasn't likely to pass up such a tasty looking treat. With a screech it took off, on giant black wings it flew. Dark talons gleaming in the sparse light its teeth showing as some sort of crude smile.

A screach is not normally a good thing, or atleast not in Balthazar's experience. He lifted his head and searched the horrizon searching with his heat sensitive eyes and only seeing blurred visions of steeples and spires. "Hmm not underground but the air is still warm...nice." With a shake of his head he freed up his flowing locks of hair and changed his vision to the normal perspective. "Better, now where's that screech coming from?", he gazed over his shoulder just in time to see a pair black claws reaching out to him. With a snap of his muscles, running on pure instinct he raised his hands and threw 2 lightning orbs point blank into its wings as he slammed backwards onto the floor.
His orbs flew harmlessly through the batlike creature. He was absolutley gobsmacked. This place was certainly different to his world. He kickflipped to his feet and drew his blades. "Fool me once and I get pissed off. Fool me twice and I might aswell be dead. If you can understand a word I'm saying beasty, back off before I remove your wings!" His blades in his hands he waited for the approach, and on que the beast swooped. It looked like a cross between an eagle and a bat. Eagle body with batlike wings. "Come on then, lets see what Darksteel does to you!"

The flying creature flew off and pivotted in the air and swung and swooped down at Balthazar again, this time swooping low and fast, claws going for eyes and face. Balth drew his blades, stabbing one into the floor, holding his other blade in both hands. He stood feet apart, his arms tense, he shifted his vision back to the heat perspective he was afterall much more comfortable in that view. Seeming white hot to Balthazar he saw the beast approach, saw its arching flight and studdied its approach. A quick inward breath which he held as he lowered his shoulders and head just below the reaching claws. A quick pivot and a upward arching slash, his arms snapping upwards, a quick but deadly blow split the beast in half. The white hot glow of its blood spreading across his view like a mist, a heavy fog. He threw himself backward as soon as his strike landed, he didn't want to know what the blood of that thing could do to him. "Well atleast your killable" he was gazing down at the twitching for as its life blood slowly poored out. It stopped twitching and let out a deathly keen. "I guess thats you done," he turned away, his view still in the heat sensing as he scanned the horrizon and saw many many white forms flying through the air at him. "Not good, not good!" he ripped his other blade from the earth and ran, just heading south as before, running at full speed across the broken ground. Leaping fallen walls, swerving round buildings hopping for some sort of cover. Suddenly he rounded a corner and saw what looked like an opening into a basement, the perfect place for a bottle neck, his thoughts quickly proccessing the pros and cons of being trapped in a basement in a world he has no knowledge of. "Ah FUCK IT!" Sliding his blades into their sheathes he dived, head first into this hole. Only to find it wasn't a basement but a gap under the building, he continued to slide, his momentum playing out on the dusty floor. Seeing the exit approaching, his only hope was that it wasn't into the waiting maw of some other beast. He slid out head first seeing nothing but open air, quickly his thing long dextrous fingers caught hold to the end. His body flipped over with his back to the wall, his fingers holding a tenuous hold on the edge. He looked straight ahead and saw the mangificent glow of the city infront of him, switching to the light refracting view so that he could see the colours and the lights of the bustling city. Quickly he spun his body so he had a stronger hold on the edge, just as a bat thing came swooping through the hole, flying off into the night. Bracing his feet against the cliff face so that he could push his body off enough to look below him. He could see a few ledges but none large enough to drop to. 'Climbing it is then.' he thought as he slowly lowered himself onto the nearest ledge and starting the slow climb down.

After a short climb Balthazar reached the bottom of the small cliffe, in his home he would of just walked off and relied on his magic but this seemed very weak in this realm. He could see that a few mins walk would have him in the city centre, ofcourse this was across broken ground and so may be risky. With a sigh of resolution he started his walk across this ground heading towards the lights. After about 10 minutes walking he reached the outskirts of the bustling city, so many shapes and sixes of the inhabitants shocked Balthazar. He had never seen such a diversity. He saw some races he recognised, some he had never seen before, one in particular he smiled at seeing. A little skittering goblin runnign between the feet of a giant, running towards Balthazar. Following it was a bit of a commotion, a big ugly looking green humanoid chased the goblin type creature. The chasing beast was atleast 10 feet tall and seemed to have a pig like face with tusks sticking out of its mouth and curving in different angles. He watched cautiously as this green hulking creature shouted at the little one, "comez bak ere you ittle frucker!!" It lunged and leaped at it nocking the little goblin in a tumbling slide to stop at Balthazar's feet. "You speak common?" Balthazar questioned in his melodic strong voice. "Yessez wat you want big black man" the little goblin squeeked at Balthazar in a grating annoying voice. "I am Drow, do you know of these?" Balthazar said staring down at the scrawny little thing at his feet. "EY! E' GOT MY STUFFZ!!" the lumbering beast stated as it got back to its feet and stared down at Balthazar. "Well thats all fine by me, I don't care. None of my business ofcourse." With a curt bow Balthazar stood aside. The little one threw a handful of gems at the big ones feet. "Therez you gotz yourz shiney! Leave me alone!" It screamed at the big one. The big pig faced creature reached behind his back and pulled out a great warhammer, atleast 9ft long. The head of it must of been as big as Balthazar. With what seemed ease the big creature slammed it straight ontop of the little creature, crushing it to a paste and sundering the very ground. Balthazar was sprayed with green flesh and a yellowish blood, as well as a fair spray of rubble. "Oh, big mistake you ugly piece of crap!" Balthazar stared with pure hatred straight at the Pig faced monster. His eyes seemed to simmer with an inner anger. Ofcourse all the big creature did was swing his weapon straight at Balthazar. With not even a blink Balthazar leaped into a roll forwards under the swing. He stood and pounded in his fists repeatedly at the giants knee. Hitting it on the inside. Before it could even lift its weapon upwards its left knee buckled and it slumped to the floor. A step back and a jump allowed Balthazar enough height to slam a foot into its chin knocking it clean out. "The bigger they are the easier it is...." With a sigh he ripped the shirt off of it and wiped his clothes down, including the fresh blood from the giant he just felled.
With a gaze of the body of the felled beast he could see many faces staring back at him, 2 of them held some hand weapons. To Balthazar they looked almost like Crossbows made of metal but without the bow. No arrow was showing either. In a language he didn't understand they spoke out to him. They where covered head to toe in a metal armour and they approached cautiously. "Aww crap." with a step back he held out his hands, palms up with nothing in them. This was the common way of showing that you are unarmed in his home. "Do you not speak common?" he asked them as they fanned out to his flanks, they gave no recognition of understanding his language.

Again they spoke in a foreign tongue to him. "Errm...." he quickly went through the languages he knew trying to find something that sounded similar. A sudden inspiration hit him, a rarely spoken dialect of the demons of Tarterus with very different inflections to most of the demon languages. "Do you understand me?" They stopped fanning out around him and one of them replied "Yes, although not very well." "Well thats atleast an acheivement. He attacked me, you saw. Shouldn't I be the one left alone?" Balthazar asked, a sweat brimming on his brow. "Do you lay claim to his gems?" the law enforcers asked as they continued their approach. "Well he's not actually dead, you want his stuff? Its yours, I'm just passing through..." They nodded to eachother and walked over to the gems. Took all but 3 and walked away. "Guess thats my cut then," After picking up the gems he looked up to see the city before him. Blood on his shoes and no idea where to even start in this strange land. "Why do I always end up in positions like this? Oh yeah, I like to win." A groan came from the giant at his feet. With a sigh he kicked it in the head again before walking off into the bustling city. First things first, information is needed. Books books books please.

As he walked through the streets he saw many races of different creatures. Some he recognised. Others he didn't. The streets where dark, hardly lit but that is probably the whole point, many of the inhabitants had cloaks up. Hiding their identities. A strange feeling came over him, a sort of recognition. He felt a power being unleashed, he felt an awakening of a very strong force. It seemed to be coming from an extremely large building in the centre of the city. He almost subconsiously started walking towards the Palace. He started to run, climbing to the rooftops and leaping from one to another, his trenchcoat flapping out behind him. In short order he landed accross from the palace steps. The large doors infront of him. He checked his items, brushed his clothes down a bit and up he went.
