It is highly recommended that you read through this thread before engaging in role-play. Firstly, I would like to explain that we are certainly not rule obsessed here at The Deviant's Palace. We follow the basic RP guidelines that you would expect to find on any RP community. So, with that said, I present to you, 'The Rules!'
Basic Rules.
1) Absolutely NO godmoding! If you're going to create a character that cannot be harmed, has no flaws and simply marches about untouchable you will find other players avoiding you. It's annoying and it's boring and you WILL be called up about it.
2) Please write coherently! Understand that creative writing is an art, if you fail to write properly when IC (I'm talking chatspeak, slang spelling and poor English), then a moderator will ask you to re-post your thread properly.
3) Know the difference between IC and OOC! If your character is picked on, enters a relationship, falls in love etc then don't drag it out of RP and into real life. Understand that these two are VERY separate. It's unhealthy and it's creepy. (This may seem an unusual rule, but believe me, I've seen it happen).
4) Read the posts of others! While it may be difficult to keep track, it is recommended that you try. Please don't ignore players, they could be interacting with your character and you would be completely oblivious.
5) Interact! It's no good sitting about on your lonesome. To really get integrated and to move the plot along you will need to communicate with other players, in character and out!
6) Read the descriptions! Please don't go off on one describing your surroundings before you have read the in-depth descriptions of the Palace.
7) 16+ Players only. If you're going to lie about your age, at least role-play to this standard.
8) Try not to swear. Swearing is allowed as long as it's in context but don't go over board please. The same applies for OOC chat.
9) This is not an online dating/sex site! While the site can be classed as 'adult' there is no need to be explicit. If you need to continue a storyline that's getting a little steamy then take it to Private Messaging. (This feature is available on this forum) Otherwise, you can always end a scene with a classy dimming of the lights. Please don't take advantage of the sites slightly mature rating, this is NOT a place for you to get your jollies!
10) If one of your characters is currently engaged in an rp thread, you cannot begin playing them in another. This may seem obvious but if you're new to rp it's worth me mentioning. Please make sure your character leaves the thread appropriately and clearly before beginning rp in another.
11) Going away? If you're involved with a plot or current thread, please let those involved with the story know that you will be unable to post for a while.
If you think you will be unable to post for at least two weeks, please have your characters leave any posts they are involved in, or, if the plot is important, approach the other players and ask for the thread to go on hiatus until you return. The 'Announcements' board in OOC is perfect for this.
12) Do not disregard another character. Since the RP here has no fixed plot we rely on the creativity and imagination of our players to introduce characters that will stir things up a bit, but please do not forget that you are not the only one with a storyline. Engage in the plots of others and allow them into your own to avoid any slumps in RP progress.
Sparring/Battle Rules
Occasionally you may find that the inhabitants of Midian are easily offended and quick to jump on the opportunity to show off their skills in a good old fashioned fight. If you find yourself in this predicament, you might want to know the rules first.
1) Play fair. Your character will receive damage when fighting and it's just boring if you're sparring with someone who will not allow their character to take any hits at all. Of course, not every character is matched when it comes to a fight, some might be more difficult than others. Just try to keep it interesting.
2) Feel free to be as destructive as you like. The Palace will always rebuild itself. If your spell brings down half a wall or obliterates a whole floor don't worry about it. Midian itself will also regenerate but if you are planning on destruction on such a grand scale, do notify the staff and other members and await their go-ahead before proceeding.
3) Do not write for other players. You cannot assume your attack is going to hit.
eg. Luna shoots at Drax, hitting him in the leg.
This is not acceptable. Always allow the other player the option of taking the hit or blocking it.
eg. Luna shoots at Drax, aiming for his leg.
4) You cannot over-ride a spell. A spell cast in a fight cannot be manipulated by the other player. For example, If a bolt of lightning is hurtling toward your character, they do not have the ability to transform it into harmless butterflies or the likes.
5) Communicate OOC. It can sometimes be difficult to accept defeat, but someones got to give or the thread will never end! It's a good idea to discuss how the fight will turn out OOC either in the OOC board or through private messaging. If no arrangement can be agreed it is perfectly acceptable for a staff member to step in and wrap up the conclusion...
6) You cannot kill another character. Rule number three should basically make this impossible but I shall mention it anyway. Absolutely NO ONE has the right to kill off another character. If you do agree to end the life of your character through a fight this MUST be discussed openly or at least mentioned before hand in the 'General Chat' section.
Character Rules
Midian is a cross-roads for all realms imaginary. The beauty of this is it allows for you to bring in any existing, well established characters that you may already have, as well as encouraging the creation of new ones.
We accept just about all species, from the ordinary vampire to futuristic cyborgs, from sorcerers to space dragons, even creatures made up entirely! Midian is a city of immense magic and power, so let your imagination run wild! The more creative the better.
It is a good idea to read The History of Midian, to understand the City and how you can integrate your characters into it.
OOC Rules.
1) Play nice! Bullying will not be tolerated. We understand not everyone gets along and the solution to that is; 'If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all'.
2) Respect the staff. Of course we don't expect unquestionable dedication, but a general respect for admin and moderators is appreciated.
