Arrow pondered on the answer as they walked through the palace, and at length tried to explain the best he could to his newly found friend.
It hurts for a long time. Arrow didn't know how old he was. He guessed in the centuries, but he could be way off the mark. There was a vague recollection of dreading the change, of keening laments under a full moon and agony.
But your body will get used to it. Try to forget the pain, and take joy in your forms. Arrow set the pace at an easy lope. The ruined city of Midian loomed in front of them.
Now my friend... we hunt.

listening to his new mentor, horus nodded, i just hope it isnt always that bad, you make it look so easy
He followed Arrow, noticing how desolate the city looked, blackened dead buildings on a cold grey ashen ground, the sky almost the same colour, almost like new moscow, his home felt so far away now. what hit this place? he asked, before commenting nukes?
He was about to add an explanation to what a nuke was when he smelt something. very distant arrow, my nose is telling me something, smells wierd that way he indicated just ahead. of him, a few buildings away

Arrow could sense the rising darkness, the feeling of wrongness and evil that crept into his skin. Why was not his colouring changing from white-blonde to black with the sheer stink of it all? It almost hurt.
The thing, being, flowed out of shadows, wrapped in a cloak seemingly made of shade itself. It was man shaped and sized, but shifted and flickered forms. Its skin was deathly pale and puckered as if made of scars and scab tissue. It held a large halberd that was tipped with an ebony black blade.
Arrow's mouth curled into a snarl, his paws spread and hair rising on his back. The creature grinned, too wide, revealing pointed teeth. Its pale features mocking and it spoke directly into their brains.
Two pretty wolves for me to eat. One of shadow and one of light. I'll tear your flesh - it's tasty meat. Time to die in this endless night.
Arrow circled it, keeping his opal eyes on that blade, ignoring the macabre poem.
Horus! We shall attack together! Arrow continued to circle, waiting for the other wolf and an opening.

Horus began to circle in the oposite direction to arrow, he felt the talon on what would have been his arm activate and begin pulsating vibrations. He snarled at the black figure. looking for a moment to strike.
The figure kept repeating the same poem, shifting his gaze at the end of each repetition.
Horus timed it, waited and timed again. the black figure turned to start its words at arrow. thats when he struck into its back. Lunging forward with a roar and ignoring his leg, horus lept, briging up the talon to swipe into the things back.
It hit, it sliced through flesh and bone. the black beast fell, but still moved. horus retreated and continued to circle what the hell is that thing? he sniffed at arrow.
he watched it get up, and turn to face him, red fire in its eyes "ill tear your flesh" it said aloud in a rasping chaotic voice that tore at Horus' soul.

Arrow lunged in one swift and graceful leap, no time to answer Horus as he sank his teeth deep into the creature's flesh at the neck. His powerful jaws clamping down and he allowed the wolf to take over, shaking the thing violently and snapping with his teeth.
His mouth was covered in thick oily black blood, his senses filled with the vile taste. Eventually the thing stopped twitching. Arrow dropped the carcass and spat out what he could, but the blood had trickled down his throat; it burned and stung.
The wolf coughed and spluttered over the creature, the black staining his face. I do not know what that thing was. But it tastes foul.

Calming himself down from the battle, horus couldnt help but laugh at what arrow said your not supposed to eat it he remarked sarcastically before following his nose along the path that the strange smell was still coming from.
it was sickly sweet, but had a weird hint of something that horus couldnt describe im still getting that smell, cant you smell it?

Arrow snorted out again, trying to dispell every trace of the stench from his nose, focusing on what Horus was saying.
He eventually found the smell, for Arrow all scents were in colours, but that blood had cast an oily black filter over everything. The trace of the colour was faint. He identified it as kin - werewolf.
A friend? He suggested. Let us follow. Arrow bounded ahead, keen to see who it might be. He had met other werewolves though not so many recently.

swiftly following arrow, he caught up, looking at what lay ahead he saw a red line against the dark ground. i can see he said and urging arrow to stop with him. my eyes have been technologically enhanced, i can magnify what im looking at, no point in us walking into more of those fuckers. He thought about it and his vision zoomed in, a red haired wolf, lying down. a large cut to.. her abdomen shes injured. looks clear.
he started moving closer to her, still 300 meters away, 2 of those black figures appeared..and headed for him and arrow. babbling their insane dirge...

Arrow remarked rather drily to Horus, I am getting tired of these. But he ignored it for the moment and sniffed about the wolf. He nuzzled at it's shoulder.
The thing was not going to live, shining viscera spilled out from a large gash, burst open and half eaten. But the thing was mewling, laboured breathing laced with the fresh tang of blood.
Autumn Star she whispered, I know you Arrow. Kill me. Water. Either. There were too many.
Arrow turned to Horus a moment, You heard her. Sort out those... things... His kindly tone had hardened a moment to ice.
He did not grant her death, instead guarding her against the circling creatures, growling defiance, picking out one and padding about, dodging swings from that blade and waiting for when he could strike.

staring directly into arrows eyes from his position, horus grinned with pleasure. he turned and charged into the nearest figure, taking it down with the sheer wieght of the strike. The thing smashed itself on the floor and barly had a chance to groan before horus crushed its skull between his jaws. The vile taste filled his mouth. he coughed and spluttered, only just avoiding a haliberd swipe from another creature The Black figure Screamed at horus, and he replied with an open mouthed roar. The Hair along his spine stood on end as he did, and his eyes shone brightly.
The enemy swung again, Horus dodges the attack and brings down his tallon on the weapon snapping it in half.
you didnt tell me that fighting as a wolf is this much fun he said almost laughing as he despatched the second thing with a charge and a swipe.
the enemies dead he turned to arrow, how is she?

Autumn Star was fading fast, crying out, changing from wolf to human and back, still with the same gaping slash to her abdomen and pleading for water and death in the same sentence.
Arrow could not not give her water. His voice was compassionate even as he opened his mouth and rested his sharp teeth on her wavering pulse.
Farewell friend. You are avenged. Goodbye, Autumn Star.
He bit down. His senses were filled with her scent, wereblood was too tempting, and Arrow shuddered with the digust of his pleasure. He released the wolf and turned back to Horus, who had finished killing the monsters.
She is dead. His white-blond fur was strained with dark blacks and crimson. Arrow as ever was composed, calm, but he had lost his desire for blood.
I am tired Horus... Was all more Arrow could manage.

noticing the grief in his friends voice, horus nodded. we should headback. at least the palace is safe from those things
he stared at the red haired wolf, and wondered, if they had been five minuites sooner.. would she still be here? He felt the grief too, he sat near arrow and awaited his desicion on whether to head back or not. watching the shadows for movement.

Arrow nodded. We will return. We must burry her. It's the least we can do.
He could still taste Autumn Star's blood, and it clouded his senses, though Arrow realised he had to continue.
Lets go. With that they headed back to the palace
