Khai wondered the streets of Midian with caution and curiosity. Making sure to walk within the lighted areas along the main roads. To stray into darkened alleys and side streets would surely mean death, or worse... The night was cold as so often was the case in a place lost to the suns rays, she wished now that she had grabbed a coat, or perhaps not worn a skirt. The path she follows turns sharply to the right and she is met with and wall of icy wind that almost knocks her over. Struggling against the blast Khai follows close to the buildings dipping into an open doorway when the Chance arises.
Khailyn catches her breath, it was as if the wind had not wanted her to venture down this street, almost as though it were pushing her back. What nonsense! Why on earth would the wind protest to her venturing into... Her eyes glance around for a sign -- The Dragon's Talon? The place was warm and inviting, a group of men laughed and drank at a nearby table as Khai passed it with a greeting smile. Ah, just the place for a good meal, surrounded by the banter of ordinary folk. Khai thinks of the empty hall back at the palace, its table filled with food that nobody would eat. At once a pretty young bar maid approaches Khai at her table to query her order. "A steak pie, oh and chips too please!" Her eyes take in this homely place, so like the old pubs of London. A sudden jolt of loneliness fills her heart, she hadn't realised just how much she missed her beloved city! But at least for now she had the warmth of this cosy tavern, the noise and smell brought a smile to her lips and the waitress brought her a much appreciated dinner.

Jaeger felt that the best way to avoid facing reality was to get blind drunk. However, in this dream scape that was Midian, he was not even sure if there would be lingering effects. That meant Ailynne wouldn't crush him like a worm for being hung over and supposing to protect her.
He swallowed down ale mixed with liquor with grim determination, this being his third this night. However, Jae was not a lightweight, and was still relatively sober - enough at least to catch sight of the pretty girl walking in.
Jaeger gave her a winning smile - or at least what he considered to be one, it may well have been more of a leer than he intended, and went to sit next to her.
He raised his cup, "Good evening lady. My name is Jaeger, but you can call me Jae if it pleases you. How be things on this rather unpleasant night?"

Khailyn simply blinks at the man now seated before her... She gives a discreet sideways glance to check if some pretty blonde thing was responding to him behind her but she caught sight of no such thing and so smiles broadly. How friendly they were Midian! "Pleased to meet you!" She says genuinely, before stabbing the top of her pie with a knife to remove the pastry. The smell of rich gravy and beef escapes with the heat making Khai almost groan in hunger. It's a little too hot to eat just yet so she shoves a couple of chips onto her fork. "Oh! Do help yourself, I wont eat it all, I never do." Khai smiles with a friendly gesture to the plate. "I'm Khailyn, by the way. I'm not from round here, I'm from London, I think that's why I came in here to be honest with you, It's very much like an old English pub, like the ones you find in London. Have you been to London?"

Jae smiled, "London you say? Aye, I've visted." He had visited before, twice, the second time as an adult and had vowed never to set foot in a museum ever again.
Ailynne came from that stinking town. Jae was used to the suburbs of Tear city and the forest grounds where the Tower was located.
"I have a friend, a bloody good friend at that, who comes from there. Bloody awful place though. Khailyn, I'll take you up on the chips."
He picked up the greasy potato pieces with his fingers, languidly shoving them into his mouth without elegance, apparantly in thought. "As bloody cliched as it sounds, what the hell is a girl like you doing in a place like this?"

Khailyn nods rather erratically at Jae's words, hoping to project her enthusiasm. She didn't want him thinking her impolite!
'Oh no, it's not such a bad a city. Who is it you know from London, where abouts are they from? I'm from the North, it's OK, I grew up in the country you see so I get a little overwhelmed in the city, but I do love it. When was the last time you visited?'
Khai just can't help herself sometimes, rambling on without a second thought. It isn't until she manages to stop for air and a few more chips that she realises her mistake, the colour flooding her cheeks. She simply smiles, awaiting his response and poking the top of her pie with the fork. Steam pushes its way through the hole in the pastry, still too hot to eat.

Peregrin sits patiently in the darkest corner of the room she could find awaiting her food order. Away from all other beings. She plays with the tankard of hot cider she purchased from the bar with minimal words.
She doesnt know anyone in the pub, and thats the way she likes it. Gazing around lazily, the soothing smell of steamy, fermented apples rising from her cup makes her feel sleepy. She takes off her sodden cloak and draps it over the chair opposite (in hope that it might dry out for the first time in weeks), and smiles to herself as her stomach groans thinking about the hearty stew and dumplings she just ordered... At last. Warmth, peace, time to unwind, if only for a while.
She knew it would only be for a while. She hadn't just come back to Midian for the menu at the local pub.
Peregrin pondered over what her next move would be. She had been advised of an old hag that lived on the outskirts of the city that knew her. Maybe she could help in the search for her father, maybe getting even the minutest bit closer to finding out her origins. Admittedly, she hadn't got anywhere in the search. Shrugging to herself she thought it as something to do.
Or there was always the option of going back to the Palace.
Yes. That was what she should do. Peregrin's face screwed up slightly at the thought of her last visit to that place. Luna, Draxus, Daimen, Khellesi... Who were they? What happened to her that night Luna confronted her... She drifted back into her thoughts..
Wings... Green... Anger... Freedom... Pain...
She wanted to understand. But at the same time, she was frightened. This was new to her. In her life she's dealt with werewolves, vampires, elves, seen dragons, trolls, bloody pixies! But that Palace... that was something else. Something that she couldn't comprehend. Maybe even out of her league. She flinched.
No. Her next move. Get merry, get some good food in her stomach and get a good night's kip. Hell, maybe even be daring as to talk to some of the locals!
Peregrin picked up the tankard and took a large swig of the warm cider and melted into the chair she sat.

Khai notes that Jae seems deeply engrossed in her food and simply smiles, looking beyond him and to the woman deep into her chair and holding a tankard. She didn't mean to stare but this tall being was like those she read about, straight out of a fantasy novel. Weather worn and beautiful, the sort that knew real earthly magic.
Khai loved this place, the weird and wonderful all drawn to one city, creatures she could only dream about passed her by in the streets. She laughs to herself, eying the womans staff with its exquisite detail. There seemed a hint of elf in her profile. Khai shakes her head, as if to awaken herself, and digs into her pie, finally cool enough to eat.

Peregrin knocks back the dregs of her drink. It had gone a bit tepid whilst she had sat there daydreaming to herself. She felt the bits of apple at the bottom of the tankard tickle down her throat, it made her choke.
Getting a bit impatient waiting for her food she looks around the room at the strangers. The pub was a little emptier than the last time she had been here. 'I should go find out where my food is' she thought to herself. She was reluctant to though... That involved leaving her belongings at the table! She wanted another drink... Peregrin got frustrated at herself. Such trivial things as going to a bar... Infront of people.. Leaving her things. What if someone tried to make conversation? What would she say? She hadn't spoke to anyone in months... So used to silence. She started to fidget in her chair. Picking up her bag, she rumaged through it to find her battered leather pouch and tipped out a few coins. 'Right... I'm sure they're not so bad...' she told herself. Peregrin spied round the bar... In the far corner was a grouchy looking fellow, 'I'll avoid him'. A large group of men laughed loud at a table by the window, clearly they were getting a bit rowdy. One of them got up to get the next round in, his face getting a little red due to the amount of alcohol consumed, also singing to himself, badly. 'Nope'. Her eyes fell upon a couple closest to her, sharing a meal. She smiled to herself 'Cosy!' She gazed at the chap stealing chips from the young girls plate, quite handsome in a rugged way... the young girl, petit, very beautiful in an inconventional way, innocent looking. She watched her intently as she delicately ate the pie in her plate, pushing her glasses back up her nose.
Peregrin looked at her belongings... Staff, cloak, bag. Paused... She picked up her staff and moved it into the corner in the shadow. Placed her cloak over her bag. Paused... She took the cloak off the bag and moved a couple of bottles of ointments she had made to the top so if it was disturbed then she would hear the bottles chinking... Placed the cloak back over the bag and stood up. Halfway between standing, she remembered that she was quite tall, and stepped before hitting her head on the only bit of low ceiling in the room, and proceeded toward the bar, next to the young girl.

Khailyn savors the taste of steak and gravy soaked pastry. Thinking back to the pubs of London and the many restaurants. Midian lacked restaurants, and coffee shops. But it sported good book stores and odd trinket shops.
She moves a couple of chips about on her plate, unable to eat much more, and watches the tall woman arrange her items on the table, seemingly wishing to make them slightly less conspicuous. Her staff, Khailyn guessed, was the most valuable of her things...
Again Khai stabs a side of her pie, the pastry shell crumbling entirely now so as not to resemble much of a pie at all anymore. She had devoured the filling and pastry was not that interesting. Her attention in once again drawn to the almost-elven woman, striding with a natural grace to the bar. Certainly there was something ethereal here? Her mind wonders to the cult, how they would demand her notes on this creature, to add to the endless files...
Khailyn gives a timid smile in the woman's direction. It didn't hurt to be polite in a city like Midian...

Peregrin stoops slightly to lean on the bar looking for the bartender. She fidgets with the change in her hand glancing over at the corner where her possessions were.
...It appeared nobody had even noticed her stand up.
A barmaid strolled over to her, wiping her hands on a towel as she walked. 'Same again luv?' She enquired, tankard ready by the barrel of heated cider. Peregrin merely nodded at the maid, 'Yeah' followed quickly by '...Thanks'. Irritated by herself, forgetting manners.
She noticed the young girl sat next to her smile in her general direction apprehensively. Peregrin darted her head round as if she would when hunting, eyes unintentionally fierce. Immediately her eyes softened, hoping she didn't scare her... And attempted to smile. 'C'mon now... she's only being friendly' 'Hey...' Peregrin said quietly, hoping it didn't show her nerves.
The bar maid handed her another tankard of hot, steamy cider. She handed over some silver and took a sip, 'That's better' and smiled again at the girl, more genuinely this time.

Jae had entered 'eating mode' which required the upmost concentration from his front-brain. Primal, animal instincts were taking care of the rest of him, as one hand flickered over a sword hilt more than once as people approached.
Though his Knightly kind of senses kicked in a double time at the softest whisper. Somewhere, his brain was saying to protect Khailyn, the bringer of food, and he was damn well going to do that.
Jaeger proceeded to swallow too fast, and the greasy piece of potato went down the wrong way. He coughed, spluttered, eyes watering and half-formed curses uttering from his tongue.
After a few moments, he recovered with a "Bloody hell."
His brown eyes bored holes into his opined creator of such discomfort. She was nearly as tall as him, he reckoned, with piercing green eyes that made his narrow in suspicion.
"What the hell do you think you are doing?!" He exclaimed, "A man's trying to eat here!"

Khailyn smiles at the woman dressed in earthy tones, perhaps a little too maniacally as she was not expecting her to speak.
"Hello!" She responds with high enthusiasm. Jae, however, did not seem to share the same approach to strangers. Khai buries her head in her hands as he jumps rather quickly to the defensive and mouths the words sorry to the poor accused woman, innocently ordering her ale...
Impolite as he was, Khai couldn't help but feel a certain fondness for this Jaeger, making her grin and giggle. She shrugs, her hands raised, palms facing the ceiling. Khai hoped to make light of the odd situation...

Peregrin's eyes widened slightly at the girls enthusiasm, and again widened even more as the man sat next to her started choking. Startled by the outburst of noise, her left hand instinctively dashes to her waist in one stealthy movement where her daggers are, hovering above the leather-bound handles, and turns to face them. Standing tall to make sure they were aware of her vigour. Living in a forest all her life, she knew how to look after herself.
Peregrin glimpses at her corner, staff propped up against the wall.
She glares at the man as he did her, eyes fixed on his, trying to predict his next move. By his outburst and lack of movement from his seat, she spectulated that if anything, it would just be a clash of words.
Her eyes flicked to the young girl and back at the mans stare. She seemed unaffected by his eruption. The corner of Peregrin's mouth raised at the young girls amplifed shrug.
'Making a scene it seems...' Peregrin answered casually, her voice deeper than usual after weeks of not uttering a word. She reached back to her beverage, without breaking her gaze. After a pause, her eyes relaxed and she smiled again at the girl, meaning no harm.

Jaeger nodded, bitterly sarcastic, "Oh the humour award goes to the croaky voiced green eyed lady here." He rolled his eyes, ate the last remaining chip, before continueing. There was precedence, after all.
"So who are you then? I'm Jae, this is Khailyn. We are merely innocent bystanders to your raucious comedic antics. Liking Midian much? You look new too."

Peregrin smirked at his response 'No threat' She thought to herself and leaned against the bar again.
'If I recall it was you causing the raucious...' She smiled at him and took another sip from her drink. Her throat softening up from the thick, soothing cider. '...Nice to know I can still make an entrance though'. 'Khailyn' she thought, 'pretty name.' 'I'm Peregrin' she said simply, 'I have been to Midian before and it is still as dark and miserable as I first remember.' She didn't want to say much more, wasn't comfortable with strangers knowing about her buisness. Peregrin took another glance at her corner, no one near it, no one even acknoweledging it. She relaxed a little.
