Khailyn shuffles happily in her seat, moving her plate away from her and feeling a little more comfortable in the situation. Jae seemed harmless really, beneath it all. A lovable rogue so to speak. And this woman, Peregrin, came across as passive, not wishing to cause a fuss. She would rise above anything Jae could through at her, that was Khai's verdict.
The barmaid had approached again, offering Khailyn alcohol that she really should not be accepting. "Just a glass of the house white" She calls whilst digging in her satchel for the strange Midian currency. "Yes, it is a rather depressing place I must agree with you there. I do miss the sunshine--Oh for goodness sake!"Khai turns her satchel upside down, an assortment of books and note pads come tumbling out of it. Along with a couple of carved rocks and particularly pretty silver pendent, inscribed with a rune. The barmaid's eyes light up at the sight of the trinket "Am willin' ter barter if ya aint got no money sweetie" Khai snatches back the necklace, suddenly uncharacteristically fierce. "No! No. I've found my money now, thankyou..."
She shoves her items back into her bag but the pendant she sinks delicately into her top pocket without another word....

Jaeger waved his finger in the general direction of the barmaid, "Yeh Khailyn ain't gonna barter with no one!" Before realising the general grammatical direction of what he said and deciding on a bit of a glare as well.
Perhaps it was a little over the top, though Jaeger was nervous, and it manifested through over-defending himself and those about him.
Peregrin was perhaps not such a bad sort, and not such a bad looker either. He was a lucky man to be surrounded by such lovely woman. A smile flashed across his mouth, winning and what Jaeger considered as charming.
"That's a nice necklace you have there Khailyn. Why aren't you wearing it? Pretty girl like you should wear pretty things!"

Peregrin bent down quickly to pick up a book Khailyn missed in her scramble. It had opened on a page with quickly scribbled notes and small diagrams of what looked like symbols, she couldn't make out in a glance. 'Here' She handed it back to Khai closed, and frowned at Jae's demeaning flirtacious comment.
She too had noticed the flash of silver drop. Peregrin knew instantly that Khailyn didn't want it to be discussed by the look she gave the barmaid. She leant forward to Khai as the barmaid turned round to get her wine. 'I'd put that somewhere safer than your top pocket if I were you' and smiled assuringly.
Peregrin leant back and knocked back the last of her cider, and peered over at her corner again. Again, nothing had moved. She looked at Jae, he was smiling to himself. She carried on looking at him for a moment, puzzled by him. 'He seems alright' she thought. And if Khai had managed to put up with him since they met, then she would be able to too. He was funny, and a bit rugged like herself. Except she was probably looking in a worse state than he! Peregrin put her hands back to tie her dreads back up at this thought.

Khailyn flushed with colour at Jaegers words, she fidgets in her seat appearing rather flustered. To ignore him would be her preferred choice of action but then, Khai's fear of coming across impolite swiftly coaxes her response. "Yes. Thank you. I err... Thank you" She mutters, hoping this was satisfactory. She turns back to face Peregrin only to notice that the woman had lowered her smiling face to Khai's level. The way in which she spoke of the pendant seemed as though she knew something about the mysterious little trinket. Perhaps she even knew what it was for or where it came from?
Khailyn smiles back meekly. She did not wish to display the necklace again, it had already drawn enough attention. Instead she fastens the button on her top pocket, insisting that it is in good care...

Jaeger's smile faltered somewhat. His face turned to something more suited - a scowl.
"Fine." He muttered, "Just sayin', tis all. No need to take all the offence, Khailyn."
In the kind of awkward silence, he decided to tell a little story, might lighten the atmosphere, make things more socialable and plesant. "I had a necklace once, Ailynne made it for me, put some manner of enchantment on it so she knew where I was, and it stopped me telling lies to her. Bloody worthless as an amulet but it looked mighty pretty."
He coughed, then decided perhaps more information was required, "I don't have it on at this very moment, but I'm not lying about it neither!"

Peregrin smiled at Khailyn as Jae took slight offence to her lack of response, and listened about his necklace. She didn't what to say about that so just merely nodded at him when he finished. She wondered why the charmed necklace was made to stop him lying. Was he a bit of a trickster really? It wouldn't matter anyway, he seemed harmless enough.
Peregrin glanced back over at her table. A couple of men had seated themselves on a table too close for comfort. Peregrin fidgeted slightly... It would be rude just to leave...
'Uh..' she started, and looked at Khai and Jae. 'I'm going to go sit back at my table... my things...' she smiled briefly. Paused.
'You're more than welcome to join me!' And smiled again. 'Did I really mean that?' she questioned herself. And nodded to herself. Of course, she was kind of enjoying their company. She hadnt been around people for so long. Not that she liked being around people much, but admittedly was missing the whole humanity, socialising malarky. She is only human after all...
Also wouldn't mind talking to Khai in private. 'Yes... that necklace...' She had seen one like it before. She had something similar in her possesion. Maybe she might be able to tell her what it was. If she could get it out of Khai, judging by her reacting to the revealing of the necklace this may prove difficult. Peregrin decided she wanted to show it to her anyway, regardless of how she'd react.
And with that flagged the barmaid down with a raised hand and ordered another cider. Another tankard of steamy, apple goodness was presented, money exchanged.
'You coming?' Peregrin enquired casually to the both of them and walked toward her table at a faster pace than usual.

Khailyn shook her head wildly at Jeager, upset that she may have offended him, 'No no! I mean, thank you Jae, I would wear the pendant but, it's sort of valuable, you know?' She insists with pleading eyes, nodding to fortify her statement. But Jaeger's story held her attention securely, an amulet that could prevent him from lying? What sorcery did this Ailynne possess? Where had she learned the knowledge to create such an amulet? Would this woman he spoke of perhaps know of the origins of her own mysterious pendant?
Peregrin seemed tense, Khai guessed it had something to do with the items left at her table, not too far from the bar. She agreed silently with herself to join the elven looking woman, giving Jae a side-ways glance as if to ask him to accompany her. Her defenses were entirely down now, even in this strange and bizarre habitat that was Midian, this lovable rogue Jaeger had pushed for acceptance which she couldn't deny, and Peregrin was somewhat intriguing and held an air of ambiguity that Khailyn found almost irresistible. She sits happily at the table, holding her white wine that ultimately allowed for her sly, flirtatious grinning toward Jaeger...

Peregrin sat back down in the chair with her bag on. She picked up her bag and started sorting things in it again, putting her purse back in it as if everything had a right place. She watched a Khailyn walked over, noticing how petite she actually was compared to herself. Peregrin is a very proud person. She knows who she is, what she is capable of, and considers herself intelligent. Khailyn intruiged her as this small, beautiful girl seemed intelligent too, maybe slightly naive due to her age. But to walk into a ran down pub filled with leary men by herself, as if on her own mission without a care, that took guts. Peregrin liked that trait in her. Like herself in that sense, a bit of a loner.
Khailyn sat down infront of her - she seemed to be watching Jae. Peregrin looked too as he didn't join them. 'Fair enough' she thought to herself. She looked back at Khai as she sipped at her wine with a provocative smile on her face. She wondered whether to bring up about the necklace, now that they had a bit of privacy. Peregrin fidgeted with the buckle on her bag. 'oh whatever...' she thought to herself. Whats the worst that could happen? She reached into her bag and took out a little blue velvet pouch. 'Khailyn...' She started, 'I've got something to show you if you're interested?' and opened up the pouch. Carefully picking out the thing inside she laid it across her hand and presented to Khai a necklace, similar to the one that she dropped. The necklace had a silvery stone attached as a pendant. Carved on the stone was what could be described as an arrow cut in half, like an upside-down 'L'. 'I found this on my travels', Peregrin spoke slightly hushed so no one else could hear.

Khailyn's eyes widen at the sight of the pendant, she chokes on her wine and coughs whilst reaching to hold the trinket so similar to her own. "Where did you get this?" She whispers, her tone far from accusing, more so curious. The symbol was a rune, as was the etching on her own pendant... But this was... which rune? Khai racks her brain, scanning the memories of the books she had borrowed from the library. 'I didn't know there were more of these... but who did they belong to?' Khailyn stares at Peregrin, desperate that she might know the answer...

Peregrin handed Khai the pendant. She watched as Khai studied it. It seemed that many thoughts were running through her head. 'I found it on my travels' she said again. 'It was on a corpse I found next to a cave. Looked like a man, but he was long dead.' She looked away from Khai. 'That sounded terrible!' she thought. Peregrin didnt steal it, he was dead. She was just making use of what he was carrying. He obviously didnt have any need for his items anymore...
She shook her head as if ridding a thought.
'Anyway... yeah. I found it.' Trying to convince herself. 'I don't know what it is, I just saw yours and thought I'd show you, because it looks pretty similar'. Peregrin shrugged and smiled meekily at Khai, then took another sip of her cider. 'Its a rune isn't it?'

Khai nods slowly, brown eyes still wide, turning the silver stone pendant in her fingers. "Yes, a rune" She says at last, as if stepping from a trance. "I can't remember... something to do with... Oh, I really can't think what the symbol is now!" She says with a furrowed brow, obviously quite annoyed at her sudden memory loss. She had studied them all, memorised their meaning and now that she was presented with this rune trinket her mind is a blank!
"Where was this corpse?" Khai asks rather hastily, but immediately realises the flaw in her question. It wasn't a simple case of 'On some road side in Manchester' there were hundreds and hundreds of realms and layers Khai had never heard of, goodness knows where this Peregrin had been!

Peregrin looked intently at Khai as she spoke. She loved learning new things, she thought that Khai would be a good person to know for information, if she could remember what it was she had to remember. Peregrin smiled as Khai sat there racking her brains.
'It was about a 3 day walk from here to the North. No markings as to its name. just a cave I s'pose...' Peregrin shrugged and picked at the handle on her mug.
'Well, no matter'. She smiled simply., 'I'm sure you'll remember'. She knocked back the last of her cider and sighed with satisfaction at its taste. 'Do you want to keep it?' She enquired. 'I think you may have more use for it than myself. Maybe you could study it, find out what it is and let me know. I'd like that.' She smiled again at Khai. She didn't know why, but she had an instant trust for her. Something she hadnt come across in a human for so long.

Khai takes the pendant from Peregrin with tentative fingers, carefully studying its shape and symbol. She sighs. "I've examined my own for long, long hours but to no avail. But I suppose it wouldn't hurt to give this one a thorough looking over." Khailyn smiles as she dips it into her top pocket, gently clinking against its counter part as she buttons it up again, just for good measure. "Although" She begins with a little uncertainty to her tone "I would very much like you to take me to this cave. I think the trinkets hiding place will reveal much more than the trinket itself" She is leaning across the table and speaking as quietly as she could over the increasing volume of the crowded Inn.

Jae, who was not really one who enjoyed visiting corpses, was quite apprehensive about the whole enterprise. Nor did he really understand amulets. That was for Ailynne, who was ever so good at magic.
"If you two are going so some cave where a man has bloody died I'm coming with you." He indicated the dual swords at his slim hips, Sin and Dex were finely crafted weapons, imbued with strong magic, able to slice through almost anything and giving Jaeger strength and speed beyond his young, mortal body.
"These two will keep us safe, though I'm guessing Mistress Peregrin isn't too bad with weapons herself, right?"

Khailyn was lost in thought, staring at the table twiddling her fingers as though she still held the pendant in them. She would need supplies if they were to venture off deeper into Midian, the thought made her shudder, but Jaeger was already boasting his skills and insisting he come along, which relaxed Khai just a bit and he was right about Peregrin, she didn't look the sort of woman dependant on a chaperon...
Khailyn sighs... She was sick of being the weak one, she needed a weapon and she'd need to learn how to use it, fast. Whilst Peregrin seemed well adept in this field, she also seemed rather independent and a bit of a loner. Khai turns to Jae, snapped from her trance like thought. "Jaeger, if I can find myself a weapon, will you teach me to wield it properly?"
